Youth Runaway Coordinator/Counselor at Child Advocacy Center

SUMMARY OF DUTIES

The Youth Runaway Coordinator will work with clients, meeting them where they are in the community, who have coexisting mental health conditions, substance use, as well as runaway behaviors. The Youth Runaway Coordinator will work with community stakeholders to develop a tracking and reporting system, that allows for better agency and system awareness of the services needed, as well as cross agency collaboration. The Youth Runaway Coordinator will provide individual and group therapy to individuals and support services for their families, as well as crisis counseling. Additionally, the Youth Runaway Coordinator will complete comprehensive assessments, diagnosis, treatment plan, discharge, and link clients as appropriate.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and/or coordinate the use of a runaway behavior screening tool at all BestSelf clinics in collaboration with members of Senior Leadership.
  • Develop and create reporting system that tracks and identify barriers to care for our youth with chronic runaway behaviors.
  • Work with BestSelf and Multi-Disciplinary (MDT) partners to better understand what communication and collaboration practices need to improve or change to increase awareness of runaway youth.
  • Provide consultation with community & BestSelf partners.
  • Develop and organize a forum in which the information gathered can be discussed and revealed to the stakeholders.
  • Provide initial and ongoing assessments of clients, including client history, evaluation of problems, and formulation of diagnosis.
  • Develop initial and ongoing treatment plans which describe the goals of treatment and the methods to be used.
  • Provide integrated individual, family and group counseling and psychotherapy to assist clients in achieving the goals of treatment.
  • Assist clients with linkages to appropriate community resources to enhance treatment and recovery.
  • With appropriate releases of information, communicate with others in client service systems to coordinate care. Such contact may include, but not limited to, primary care physicians, insurance companies and other service providers involved in the care of clients.
  • Complete all trainings required by the agency.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must have an active & unrestricted NYS LMSW, MHC-P, or LMFT. LCSW or LMHC preferred.
  • Must have at least 1 year of experience in a clinical mental health setting.
  • Must have knowledge of a variety of intervention techniques, including motivational enhancement; common mental disabilities, chemical dependency interventions and resources.
  • Excellent communication skills including comfortability with presentations.
  • Must be trained in or have relevant experience with Trauma Focused-Cognitive Behavior Therapy (TF-CBT) and/or trauma-related modalities.
  • Must have experience working with basic computer technology (Microsoft Suite) and ability to work effectively and efficiently in an electronic medical record. Cerner experience preferred.  
  • Must appreciate cultural diversity and be aware of cross cultural counseling issues.
  • Must be able to lift at least 15 pounds.
  • Must be flexible in scheduling, position requires nights, weekends, and holiday work.
  • Valid NYS Driver's License.
  • Must have accredited NYS Defensive Driving course; or obtain within 15 days of hire and send certification of completion to Human Resources.
  • Must maintain active NYS Defensive Driving course every 3 years and send a copy of the new certification of completion upon expiration.

Salary Range

  • Determined based on education, level of licensure/certification, and experience.
  • Increases given when new licensure obtained.

Licensed Counselors:

  • 35 hours per week: $43,500.00-$66,242.27 annually per year Full Time
