Hours: 4pm-12am and 12am-8am, Full Time and Part Time Status

SUMMARY OF DUTIES

The Resident Support Specialist (RSS) supports a trauma informed care residential environment, providing support and motivation to the residents in developing daily living skills. The Resident Support Specialist encourages participation in social, educational, vocational, psychiatric, and rehabilitative activities, as well as assists residents in learning community integration and provides exposure to supportive services.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assists in the orientation of newly admitted residents
  • Provides a therapeutic milieu for residents, including development of daily living skills, prosocial behaviors, and taking accountability for behaviors that do not align with expectations of the program.
  • Conducts periodic rounds of the facility, interacting with residents during free time
  • Assist staff in crisis management as needed
  • Provides resident transportation as assigned
  • Covers phones and reception area as assigned
  • Participate in staff meetings and in-service training when scheduled
  • Assist in coordinating social and recreational activities
  • Oversee residents with kitchen and laundry room use, assists with household chores, and assists with meal preparation, when needed
  • Ability to maintain flexible work schedule, especially nights, weekends and holidays.
  • Completes necessary documentation accordingly.
  • Completes all trainings required by the agency.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Associates degree or equivalent in human service field and one year in a human service agency, or High school diploma or equivalency and two years full time paid experience in a human service agency or health care facility.
  • Excellent communication skills using all methods.
  • Ability to identify potential crisis situations, convey this information to supervisor in a timely and appropriate manner, and follow through with directions.
  • Ability to maintain BestSelf HIPPAA confidentiality guidelines.
  • Ability to utilize the computer for email, training and BestSelf Systems.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds when handling materials and related tasks.
  • Must be able to stand or sit for extended periods of time.
  • A valid NYS drivers’ license
  • Must have Accredited NYS Defensive driving course; or obtain within 15 days of hire.
  • Must maintain Active NYS Defensive Driving class every 3 years, upon expiration.
