Medical Internships

RN Student Intern will utilize the nursing process to care and/or counsel individuals in the promotion and maintenance of health.

The Nurse Intern may assist in:

·  the identification, assessment and delivery of patient care

·  the creation of effective teaching materials and beneficial health promotion activities for patients consistent with Agency philosophy, policy, objectives and Standards of Clinical Practice

·  the review of documentation to ensure accuracy and compliance with regulation

·  the coordination of day-to-day activities

·  entering, collecting, researching, compiling and/or verifying data

·  identifying problems and resolving/escalating issues as necessary.

The Nurse Intern will be assigned to a Registered Nurse preceptor.

Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioners (PMHNPs) Interns provide a full range of primary mental health care services, including biopsychosocial assessment and diagnosis of patients with mental illness and co-occurring disorders. Treatment modalities include both medication and psychotherapeutic management.

This specialty prepares student interns to respond to the mental health needs of persons across the lifespan. In addition to foundational coursework for all advanced practice roles, PMHNP coursework includes psychiatric assessment and symptom management, psychopharmacology, and therapy modalities.

Interns will be assigned to a preceptor.  Preceptors will be a Psychiatrist or Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, who have been licensed at least one year and without any license restrictions.

Physician Assistant (PA) interns will learn how to perform initial psychiatric evaluations and follow-ups with a focus on medication management in clinical setting.  The purpose is to provide the student with clinical experience in the varied presentations of mental illness. The student will have an opportunity to evaluate, identify and learn management of both acute and non-acute psychiatric patients.

Medical Student Interns will work closely with the broader clinical team, under the direction of a physician mentor, to support clients and families in programming. Primary responsibilities includes supporting treatment of clients as assigned, contributing to treatment goals alongside multidisciplinary clinical team, diagnosis, treatment, coordination of care, preventive care, and health maintenance of clients who are enrolled in clinic services.

PLACEMENT SCHEDULE:

For Fall (August/September Start)- Submit application by May 1st

For Winter/Spring (January start)- Submit application by October 15th

For Summer (May/June start)- Submit application by March 1st
