Teacher of Renaissance Addiction Services

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Starting Range: $23 to $25 per hour (based on education and experience)

***Working with young adults aged 18 and over who have a strong need for GED instruction

SUMMARY OF DUTIES

The Teacher at RAS is responsible for developing individual education plans tailored to each participant's needs, creating daily assignments across subjects for participants in school, and promptly correcting and returning assignments in a timely manner. The role also entails maintaining accurate grade records and providing average grades every ten weeks. Additionally, preparing participants for standardized tests such as NYS testing, Regents testing, or GED testing is part of the role. The Teacher builds and maintains effective relationships with school district members to develop learning plans that best suit the needs of the student. Lastly, maintaining and documenting Electronic Medical Records (EMR) in compliance with agency and regulatory requirements is necessary.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Developing an individual education plan to meet the unique needs of each participant.
  • Creates daily assignments in each subject for each participant in school.
  • Corrects and returns all assignments to participants within two days of receiving them.
  • Maintains an accurate record of all grades for all participants and provides an average grade for each course every ten (10) weeks.
  • Communicates all concerns about participant behavior or performance to the Education Coordinator and counseling staff.
  • Coordinates learning plans with applicable school district representatives.
  • Prepares participants for NYS testing, Regents testing, or GED testing.
  • Maintain & document Electronic Medical Records (EMR) in a timely fashion in accordance with agency and governing body regulatory requirements.
  • Completes all trainings required by the agency.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • NYS Initial, Permanent or Professional Teaching Certification.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Secondary Education or related educational field PLUS 2 years full-time paid experience.
  • Must have excellent communication, presentation, and networking skills.
  • Minimum proficiency with Windows based software applications and basic office equipment (copiers, scanners, phones) required.
  • Must appreciate cultural diversity and have the ability to recognize, embrace, & adapt to diverse learning backgrounds and skills.
  • Ability to work on holidays as needed and requested.
  • Valid NYS Driver's License.
  • Must have accredited NYS Defensive Driving course; or obtain within 15 days of hire and send certification of completion to Human Resources.
  • Must maintain active NYS Defensive Driving course every 3 years and send a copy of the new certification of completion upon expiration.
