The Vice President (VP) of Medical Services will be strategic advisor and collaborator as a member of the agency's Senior Leadership team, whose role is to plan, develop, implement, and monitor the services provided by the medical team across all agency programs within BestSelf Behavioral Health. This role is crucial to ensuring the highest standard of patient care, the efficiency of medical operations and the overall success of the medical components within our Behavioral Health practice. The Vice President of Medical Services will provide strategic direction and leadership for the medical services staffing, collaborate with other senior leaders to develop and implement medical policies, protocols, and long-term plans. These services will be in alignment with, and support the advancement of the agency's strategic goals, mission, vision, and beliefs. The Vice President of Medical Services will influence the direction of the agency's medical staff by applying the components of our leadership philosophy to foster a culture of growth and support for the agency's mission. Leading and developing the medical team
- The ideal candidate will have experience that demonstrates they can build, develop, and retain an effective team of prescribers, nursing staff, and nursing management in alignment with the agency's leadership philosophy. This includes aligning the duties of the individuals on the team to utilize their talents effectively and efficiently, and supporting and developing them to advance their skill sets.
- They will be an effective communicator and coach to all members of the medical team. They will build positive working relationships with the team members, and effectively communicate how each role interacts with other roles on the team and throughout the agency.
- They will conduct regular site visits to ensure compliance with best practices, standards, and policies. This includes feedback to providers/prescribers and nurses, leveraging corrective actions if needed and carrying out standardization of services.
- They will oversee prescriber schedules, determine appropriate staff-to-site ratios, and assess the need for additional hires to meet patient demand.
- The VP of Medical Services will facilitate the onboarding process for new hires and internal promotions, including shadowing arrangements and collaboration setup.
Expertise in efficient and effective medical operations
- The VP of Medical Services will have a profound understanding of all levels of medical practices, preferably as it relates to behavioral health and human services.
- They will analyze existing processes, procedures, and expenditures to identify areas of inefficiency and potential cost savings.
- They will lead process improvements and develop educational materials to equip medical staff with sufficient knowledge and skills to provide compassionate, respectful, trauma informed, racially equitable quality care
- They will assist in the setup of required training programs, such as injections, Cerner, HEDIS measures, and just-in-time prescribing which will be crucial to enhance the skill set of our medical teams.

- The Vice President of Medical Services will be highly-skilled in collaborating with other programs, medical professionals, and organizations, including government agencies and advocacy groups to develop new programs and services that support the organizational mission and adapt to changes over time.
- The ideal candidate will oversee the setup and coordination with toxicology companies and laboratories to ensure efficient communication and collaboration of services.
- They will build connections with local community organizations, chambers of commerce, and industry associations. In addition, they will attend networking events, join committees, and participate in community initiatives to establish relationships with key stakeholders.
Job duties
- Manage and mentor medical staff, including psychiatrists, nurse practitioner, registered nurse and other health care professionals.
- Promote a positive and collaborative work environment by retaining talented personnel and address any staff-related issues.
- Promote the agency's REI philosophy and work with the medical services staff to engage & implement complementary strategies.
- Oversee the budgeting and financial planning for the medical services including allocating resources efficiently, identifying cost-saving opportunities, and ensuring financial sustainability.
- Stay abreast of medical advancements and technological innovations including new technologies and best practices into the medical services to improve efficiency and patient care.
- Assess programmatic needs in relation to health integration and develop plans to increase health integration for each program.
- Provide individual and group supervision to agency medical staff (Prescribing Practitioners, RN's, LPN's and Medical Assistants).
- Represent the organization in medical at community events, building relationships with stakeholders and healthcare partners.
- Establish and monitor key performance indicators for medical services.
- Ensure organization follows all federal, state, and agency identified medical policies and procedures.
- Implement Harm Reduction philosophy and fuse into provider practices.
- Assess organizational need for medical staffing.
- Assess workflows for blood work, toxicology practices, and changing workflows to maximize efficiency.
- Work to assist organization with recruitment, hiring, and retention of medical staff.
- Collaborates with other programs, medical professionals, organizations, including government agencies and advocacy groups to develop new programs and services that support the organizational mission.
- Develops, maintains, and implements policies and procedures that conform to current standards of medical practice, facility philosophy, and operational policies while maintaining compliance with state and federal laws and regulations.
- Develops educational materials to equip medical staff with sufficient knowledge and skills to provide compassionate, respectful, trauma informed, racially equitable quality care.
- Coordinates clinical experiences for medical rotations and internships.
- Schedule and assigned duties are subject to change based on the needs of organization.
Required knowledge, experience, and skills
- At minimum, five years of leadership experience specifically with medical staff.
- Must possess thorough knowledge of a wide array of medical practices.
- Must be skilled in medical services supervision, program management, and organizational and leadership development.
- Must be able to maintain effective working relationships with other BestSelf staff and community partners.
- Effective interpersonal and organizational skills are essential, as is the ability to provide leadership and motivate staff to strive toward excellence.
- Must possess the ability to respond quickly in a crisis and solve problems effectively.
