TAY Support Specialist of Safe Space

Reports To: TAY Team Leader

Starting Pay Rate: $19 an hour

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

SUMMARY OF DUTIES

The Transitional Age Youth (TAY) Support Specialist will assist in maintaining a stable and therapeutic environment in BestSelf Behavioral Health's Safe Space overnight drop in center. Assists transition aged youth in learning life skills and community integration, provides exposure to supportive services and encourages participation in social, educational, vocational, psychiatric, and rehabilitative activities. Facilitate client intakes, assessments, data collection and entry. Assists in tasks such as preparation of meals, serving and cleaning. Oversees clients engaged in various educational, wellness and recreational activities. The TAY Support Specialist is responsible for supervision of the facility overnight and enforcement of program rules under direction of the on-call management team.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Facilitate peer mentoring, support and encouragement
  • Coordination of social and recreational activities
  • Oversee clients with shower and laundry room use
  • Facilitate client intakes, assessments, data collection and entry
  • Assist with meal preparation, service and clean up
  • Available to work holidays and weekends
  • Schedule and assigned duties are subject to change based on the needs of the program and the clients we serve.
  • Completes all trainings required by the agency.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Associates degree or equivalent in human service field and one year in a human service agency
  • OR High school diploma or equivalency and two year's experience in a human service agency or health care facility.
  • Must possess the ability to establish supportive trusting relationships with transition aged youth who are experiencing homelessness, persons with severe and persistent mental illnesses and/or substance use disorder and maintain respect for client rights and personal preferences in treatment.
  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Must possess knowledge of community resources.
  • Demonstrates adaptability in high-pressure work environments.
  • Ability to maintain flexible work schedule, including nights, weekends and holidays.
  • Able to work confidently and responsibly in environments that may present safety risks, while adhering to all safety protocols.
  • Ability to identify potential crisis situations, convey this information to supervisor in a timely and appropriate manner, and follow through with directions.
  • Ability to maintain BestSelf HIPAA confidentiality guidelines
  • Must be able to stoop, bend and lift up to 30 lbs. frequently.
  • Must be able to stand or sit for extended periods of time
